At Design by Two, we are thrilled to have collaborated with our client, John Brown, on the creation of Chuo—a unique restaurant concept in the heart of Shoreditch. Driven by John’s focus, determination, and passion, Chuo delivers high-quality food at affordable prices, perfectly aligning with the vibrant and artistic essence of East London’s trendsetting community. Surrounded by fashionable clubs, bars, and artisan eateries, Chuo offers a dining experience that seamlessly blends innovation and style.

The design of Chuo’s interior is inspired by the principles of “Japandi,” blending Japanese simplicity with Scandinavian functionality to create a serene yet practical dining environment. The seating layout is thoughtfully planned to cater to both individual diners and groups, ensuring comfort and flexibility. A striking feature wall frames the 14-metre-long sushi monorail delivery system, adding a unique and dynamic element to the space. To enhance convenience, grab-and-go fridges and adjacent payment screens are strategically positioned to complement the main dining area, offering a seamless experience for guests.

Every detail of Chuo’s design has been thoughtfully curated to enhance both aesthetics and functionality. A multi-functional service and display station serves as a central anchor, combining practicality with style. The feature wall, with its cohesive colours and complementary dining shelves and tabletops, ties the design together seamlessly. A warm, neutral palette featuring a cream base, muted green accents, and warm oak timber trims creates a welcoming atmosphere, while fluted wall cladding panels at the base of the feature wall add texture and refinement, further elevating the space’s overall appeal.
