To foster a sense of calm and wellbeing, the design incorporates biophilic principles. Maintenance-free mummified moss panels bring natural textures into the space, creating a sense of serenity and connection to nature. These elements reflect the school’s commitment to nurturing both the mind and spirit.
Bespoke Decorative Features
The reception area is further enhanced by bespoke decorative wall panels, blending fluted timbers, pastel-coloured laminates, and moss detailing. These features bring a sense of playfulness and sophistication to the design, perfectly complementing the warm and welcoming aesthetic.
A Harmonious Design Palette
Natural oak timber fluted panelling, combined with an earthy colour palette, ties seamlessly with the school’s existing timber frame finishes. The Amtico flooring features a curved sweep design, thoughtfully guiding visitors from the entrance to the reception desk, ensuring a smooth and inviting journey into the space.

At Streatham & Clapham Prep School, the reception area serves as the gateway to the school community. With a small budget, the project aimed to reconfigure and refresh the space, focusing on reusing existing comfortable furniture while enhancing the overall functionality and aesthetics. The new reception area is designed to create a calming and welcoming environment that supports pupils, parents, and visitors alike.
Improved Functionality and Engagement
The reimagined space includes thoughtful updates to improve the reception’s functionality and provide a better experience for everyone. A newly installed TV screen offers opportunities to showcase school activities, news, and events. A self-signing-in station ensures convenience, while a bespoke sign warmly welcomes all who enter, reinforcing the school’s inclusive ethos. The two-tier reception desk has been designed to cater to both adults and prep school pupils, ensuring accessibility for all ages.
